The Masons' Loft of York Minster

Guildhall and River Ouse, York

York Minster during Millennium Mystery Plays
This is one of four groups reporting to the Without Walls board and has representatives from 12 organisations, including City of York Council, English Heritage, Natural England and York Civic Trust.

The aim is to devise strategies and create policies which provide protection for the environment and also explain and promote recognition of York's historic assets.

The group has a broad brief which includes protecting not only the world-class buildings and historic streetscape, but also the natural resources such as the sadly undervalued rivers and green wedges and Strays.

The current project seeks to analyse the city's unique characteristics and codify the features which make York special.

A paper has been produced by the City of York Council which aims to provide evidence of the special character and significance of York. A means of testing and categorising York against a proven methodology has resulted in the production of a Heritage Impact Appraisal.City's Heritage Topic Paper 2013
