York’s Forgotten Sculptor: George Walker Milburn (1844-1941)

April 25 @ 6:15 pm - 8:00 pm

| Free – £10

Event Navigation

George Walker Milburn (1844-1941) was one of the most prolific carvers and sculptors of the late 19th century and early 20th century. He worked with most of the major architects of the time. Evidence has been found for over 1500 hundred of his works, more than 300 of which are extant. Yet, except for a few works, he is all but forgotten in his native York.

In an illustrated lecture, Dr. Tony Power, who has been researching the carver for over 6 years, with exclusive access to his ledgers, will attempt to restore Milburn to rightful recognition of his artistry.
