HERBERT HOUSE TOUR 3 – 22 MAY 2019 at 2pm

May 22 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

£10

Thanks to our sister organisation at York Conservation Trust, we are able to offer an additional tour of this fascinating building.

This fine medieval house was the first restoration of a building at risk, by JB and Cuthbert Morrell in 1946.

Today, the York Conservation Trust, founded by the brothers, is carrying out a major refurbishment of the building and members of the Civic Trust have privileged access to see the whole of the building before the work commences.

The one hour hard hat tours are led by Guy Bower, the Conservation architect in charge of the project.  The building has an illustrious history, Sir Thomas Herbert was born there in 1606, but in 1639, the then occupant, Roger Jaques, entertained Charles I when in York.  Guy will be accompanied by Dav Smith and Geoff Maybank from Maybank Buildings Conservation.  Maybank Buildings Conservation have been assisting York Conservation Trust to inspect the condition of the building and they have undertaken some historical research.  Geoff and Dav have offered to explain their findings to YCT members, on the tour.

Assemble by Lady Peckitt’s Yard , Pavement, YO1 9UP

THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT – YCT MEMBERS ONLY EVENT – to be added to the waiting list, please email: info@yorkcivictrust.co.uk
