Historic Mileposts: Tadcaster Road Acomb, & Rawcliffe.
Four of the city’s historic cast-iron milepost markers were repainted as part of York Civic Trust’s City Enhancement Project in May and June 2019.
Two of the mileposts are located on Tadcaster Road: one at the southern end of the road, in Dringhouses, between The Grove and Chessingham Garden, opposite the Tesco store. The other milepost on Tadcaster Road is nearer to the city centre, opposite Chalfonts.

The poor state of the pair of mileposts was brought to YCT’s attention by David Brinklow, a member of Yorkshire Architectural and York Archaeological Society.
Two further cast-iron mileposts have been refreshed: one in Acomb near the Green, and another just off the Shipton Road/ A19 where it passes through Rawcliffe.
