York’s History & Heritage Through Presentations To Groups
York Civic Trust has a small team of enthusiastic, highly knowledgable and engaging speakers to present special talks to groups through illustrated presentations.
We have a variety of themes and topics to choose from. Our illustrated talks inform a wider community audience about the history and heritage of York and the Trust’s activities.
Presentations can also be tailored to the group’s particular interests and can be arranged during the day or in the evening, for groups of any size.
‘Why York is Special’
This presentation outlines briefly how York developed, and then discusses the history of York Civic Trust since its foundation in 1947. It ends by describing all aspects of the essential work currently done by the Trust to preserve York’s heritage and future.
‘The conservation of York over the centuries’
This presentation outlines in more detail how York developed with examples of buildings we enjoy today that date from the Romans to the present. The conservation efforts of individuals and organisations since the 16th century are then discussed.
‘York’s History Through 100 Plaques’
In this presentation we introduce you to many famous York people who have made their mark nationally in science, the arts, philanthropy and politics, and whose former homes or workplaces have a Civic Trust blue plaque to celebrate their achievements.
‘Changing the face of the city: Heritage and Engineering’
York is special, not only for its magnificent buildings but also the intimate detail of its historic streetscapes. The Trust’s City Enhancement Programme has the objective of ensuring York remains special by delivering small-scale projects. We work with others to create or restore monuments, statues, pocket parks, and embellishments to buildings, street furniture and many other features in the public realm. The illustrated talk will be about the work of the Trust and will detail some of our most interesting enhancement projects, touching upon the engineering challenges and other issues that we have encountered along the way.
WHAT DOES IT COST
The talks are presented free of charge, however donations are welcome to York Civic Trust for our City Enhancement Fund Projects
