St Margaret’s Church: Gates Restored
Age and vandalism had damaged the prominent gates on Walmgate at the entrance to the churchyard of St Margaret’s Church. The Church is now the home of the National Centre for Early Music, having once been redundant but rescued by York Civic Trust and other partners. The City Enhancement Programme was able to fund restoration work. The project was managed by Nick Beilby on behalf of the Trust.

Structural repairs to the arch and the gates were carried out by Barker and Patterson. Also needed was the removal of the previous paint, repairs and new coats of black paint. The gold lettering in the arch had to be restored and new letters cast. All this was completed by April 2017.
