John Vincent

John has been a Trustee since 2017 and is Chair of the Enterprise Committee. He grew up in London, studied Civil Engineering at the University of Leeds and gained a post-graduate degree in Transport from the University of Newcastle. He is a Chartered Engineer, having spent a career in consulting engineering and planning.
John first came to York in 1976 to work on the Greater York Travel Study, which developed proposals to complete the outer ring road, whilst promoting pedestrianisation, cycling and bus priority. He returned to York in 1992 to set up a regional office serving Yorkshire and the North East. The company grew and whilst John was promoted to the main Board, becoming managing director of the European Transportation division, the family maintained their home in York.
John has been a non-executive director of Yorkshire Forward (once the development agency for the region), an advisor on transport matters to London First which represents business within the Square Mile, and a Trustee of two occupational pension funds. This experience provides a broad understanding of business development and management.
Today, John is a member of the Company of Merchant Taylors and chairs its Fabric Committee, responsible for upkeep of their Hall and grounds. His other interests include travelling in Europe and beyond, horse racing, football, and attending short courses in science, history and literature.
