‘York Hidden Beauty’ is our newly launched digital image project, asking members of the public to send and decide what images best express the city’s hidden beauty. Beyond the “picture postcard” images, we are trying to capture the ‘real’ city, drawing attention to lesser-known or unexpected places and features. We’re open to everything, from the arty to the quirky, taken on a professional camera or a mobile phone – everyone is welcome!

“We are keen to get people thinking about ‘beauty’ now and what it means in a York context. We think the best way to do this is to invite everyone to get out and about in their local communities and show what York’s hidden beauty is and means to them personally and to us all collectively as a city.”

Andrew Morrison, CEO of York Civic Trust

The project is starting life on social media and can be found on Instagram @yorkhiddenbeauty. There will be an ‘expert’ panel discussion event appraising some of the images on June 10th as part of the York Festival of Ideas, and a future digital or temporary open exhibition is planned for later in year.

Send in your photos via social media or by email at info@yorkcivictrust.co.uk. If possible, please also include where the photo was taken and why you’ve chosen it.
