(a) On-line Sources of archaeological information about York

Archaeology Data Service

The Archaeology Data Service (ADS) supports research, learning and teaching with high quality and dependable digital resources. It does this by preserving digital data in the long term, and by promoting and disseminating a broad range of data in archaeology.

City of York Council

There is a limited amount of information available on the City Council website. Perhaps the most useful resource on the City of York website is the summaries of archaeological projects in the city carried out between 1990 and 2000 and a limited number of unpublished archaeological reports available as downloadable pdf files:

The City of York Council extensive archive has moved from the Art Gallery building into the Library in Library Square, to a purpose-built high-level extension.

Heritage Gateway

On-line access to the City of York Historic Environment Record
On-line access to national heritage datasets held by English Heritage (eg listed buildings online).

Mike Griffiths and Associates

This site provides access to online information about archaeological projects that MGA has carried out in York.

York Archaeological Trust

Internet Portal to YAT activities. Key resources are the online Gazeteer of all YAT archaeological interventions up to 2001; publications available only online; and out-of-print publications available as downloadable pdfs:
It is possible to become a Friend of York Archaeological Trust.  This gives free entry to YAT attractions such as Jorvik, as well as participation in a lively programme of talks and visits.
York Museums Trust

The York Museums Trust created and maintains the History of York website. This site provides short accessible accounts of periods, places and people in York from prehistory to the present day.
The Museums Trust runs the Yorkshire Museum, York Art Gallery, and York Castle Museum.
