York Civic Trust is a not-for-profit membership organisation dedicated to protecting and enhancing York’s heritage, including our museum, Fairfax House. As such, neither the Trust nor our museum receives any public funding and so relies upon the generosity of donations and income generated through museum visitor admissions, events, and our Membership.
2020 has been a difficult year for all of us, and heritage-based charities and visitor attractions, such as the Trust and Fairfax House, are far from an exception. In January we were forced to extend our closed period for Fairfax House by eight weeks due to emergency conservation work required to save our famous stucco ceilings. Then, due to the global, Covid-19 pandemic that we all now find ourselves facing, our museum has faced a further six months without visitor income, and we have been forced to postpone all of our Events programme.
All the same, our work continues!
In many ways the Covid-19 measures in the city require the Trust to be even more committed to fulfilling a civic role: monitoring the appropriateness of planned (and unplanned) change in the city, including transport and traffic issues, conserving Fairfax House and heritage in the public domain, and furthering engagement with the city’s rich history.
Your donation would greatly help to secure our ability to continue the work we do on your behalf, allow us to continue to engage with all who cherish York as the internationally-renowned city we all know it is and needs to remain to be.
