Plaque to Samuel Tuke

On 24 August, at the new student housing development in Lawrence Street (formerly the Lawrence Street Working Mens’ Club, and now renamed Samuel Tuke Apartments)  a plaque was unveiled to the Quaker reformer and mental health pioneer Samuel Tuke, the third member of the Tuke dynasty.

The ceremony was attended by representatives from developers S Harrison, and student housing company Empiric.  In recognition that Samuel Tuke was Manager of The Retreat, the Chief Executive and Trustees of The Retreat performed the actual unveiling.
