A plaque was unveiled to Anne Lister (known as Gentleman Jack), diarist and lesbian (re-worded), at the Holy Trinity Church, Goodramgate, where she sealed her union with Ann Walker, Easter 1834. This was followed by a lecture and tour of areas of York connected to Anne Lister.

  1. How is it sad? It’s an amazing accomplishment! Queer representation should be emphasized, they have been ignored for far too long! Support LGBT!

  2. How sad to have a plaque commemorating a person by their sexuality rather than achievements. It makes no sense. Surely Ann Lister’s independence and intelligence and ‘daring’ to deal with all aspects of her estate, along with her travels etc is something to remember her for, but a lesbian.
