York Civic Trust, in partnership with the Laurence Sterne Trust, has today unveiled a blue plaque of a different sort – made of stained glass. The unusual addition to the Trust’s plaque programme was created by renowned stained glass makers, Barley Studios and was commissioned to celebrate the York site where the first volumes of Sterne’s famous work ‘The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentlemen‘, were sold in 1767.
The site on Stonegate received the plaque, on 5 November 2018, which incidentally is the three hundredth anniversary of Shandy’s birth.
