Trustee Role: Small and Medium Business –representative of independent business sector in York
York Civic Trust recognises that the economic development of York in the 21st Century is dependent upon the creativity and success of the small and medium independent business sector. The large employers of the 19th and 20th centuries are no longer the economic force of the city. Cultural tourism, hospitality, retail, heritage and creativity are the main economic drivers of the city. The Civic Trust believes that the character and heritage of the city plays an integral part within this current and future economic success. Whereas the Civic Trust has 75 years of experience promoting and conserving the heritage of the city it is currently lacking in advice and understanding of the needs and priorities of small and medium-sized independent businesses. Recent City Enhancement Fund delivered by the Civic Trust working with retailer’s associations and the York Bid –e.g. the Fossgate Banner and the City’s Way-marking project have demonstrated the value of working in partnership with organisation who are embedded within this economic sector. In order to expand the role of the Civic Trust in this area and ensure that its influence and work is essential to the future success and economic sustainability of the city the Civic Trust is looking to recruit a new trustee who has a strong knowledge and extensive networks within the sector and the city of the York.
