Dr John Snow, the world-renowned epidemiologist and anaesthestist, was born in North Street in 1813. In March 2017, we opened a monument to him (in the form of a Victorian water pump). The ceremony was attended by our partners in the project, including York Medical Society, the University of York, the City of York Council and York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The memorial was opened by descendants Geoff Snow and Stephanie Snow; and concluded with a memorable and informative lecture by Stephanie Snow.
