A major project of the City Enhancement Programme, the new permanent steel banner for the entrance to Fossgate, is close to a successful completion.
After two years of planning, the new Fossgate Banner is under construction at the workshop of Barker & Patterson of Hull. Permission for the banner was granted by City of York Council in April 2017.

The banner has been designed with the history of Fossgate as a fish market in mind. The site was a fish market from the Middle Ages and the fish that will be depicted are known to have been sold in Medieval York, as a result of archaeological investigations.
It will replace the temporary plastic banner between The Terrace and Sutler’s with installation expected in the coming weeks.

The banner was designed by PPIY and the project has been a collaboration between York Civic Trust, York BID, the Fossgate Association, PPIY, Barker & Patterson Ltd and DossorMCA (now Mason Clark Associates).
