Where is the Little Admiral?

Have you ever noticed the wondrous clock at St Martin Le Grand, Coney Street? For those that have, you may remember a handsome ‘little admiral’ dressed in eighteenth century attire standing on top.

The eagle-eyed citizens of York may have noticed that he’s currently missing …but never fear, he’s in safe hands with the Cumbria Clock Co who are undertaking repairs to cracks in his wooden body.

Believe it or not, the admiral is said to date back to 1778! He sits on a revolving mechanism that turns on the hour strike.
We’ve received notice from his repairers that the admiral has ‘left the building’ and decided to head off on an adventure around Yorkshire and beyond…
If you happen to see him on your travel, or get news of his appearance further afield, please let us know – the dafter the better!

You can download an image of the admiral here which can be simply dropped into a background of your choosing. We can’t wait see what he’s been up to and will share his adventures across social media and on our website. Email your ‘evidence’ to info@yorkcivictrust.co.uk, send them via social media, or tag us @yorkcivictrust using #yorkadmiralantics
