If you thought that your black bag waste goes to landfill…. think again!
The new Allerton Waste Recovery Park project processes up to 320,000 tonnes of waste per year from York and North Yorkshire councils, providing a solution for treating our waste while turning it into a resource through the following technologies: A mechanical treatment plant for general waste mainly originating from household bins, separating out metal, paper, card, glass and plastics for recycling; An anaerobic digestion plant treating the organic waste part and producing a biogas which generates renewable electricity; and An energy from waste plant burning the waste which remains after separation of the recyclables.
