A chance to hear Peter Addyman on a life of archaeological revelations in a conversation led by John Oxley. There is probably no-one in York with the depth of archaeological experience and local knowledge that Peter Addyman has collected since he arrived in the city in 1972.
Peter Addyman is a British archaeologist who was Director of the York Archaeological Trust between 1972 to 2002. After studying archaeology at Cambridge University, Peter taught at Queen’s University Belfast and the University of Southampton. In 1972 he was made the first Director of the York Archaeological Trust, the creation of which he had proposed. In this role, he oversaw significant excavation work in York, and the development of the Jorvik Viking Centre, the Archaeological Resource Centre, and Barley Hall.
