‘THE MOST FORTUNATE SITUATION’ – History of Museum Gardens

10th July 2019 @ 2:15 pm - 3:45 pm

£10

The area we now know as the Museum Gardens has been occupied by the Roman army, the Northumbrian Earls, the Normans, Benedictine monks, Henry VIII, (the real) Lord Grantham, the Yorkshire Philosophical Society, and CYC – among others.

On this walk we will also hear stories about the Garden’s creators, the effects of wars, pistol shootings, riots, adulterous happenings and dangerous animals.  Walk leader, Dr. Peter Hogarth is a co-author of the new history of Museum Gardens “The most fortunate situation” published by the Yorkshire Philosophical Society.
