The area around the former York Castle is the most prominent public space in England’s second city, and has been badly used and under-developed for three generations since the Victorian prison and castle walls were demolished.
The City of York Council is trying to remedy this by consulting all interested parties, and commissioning a Master Plan for the area. Early actions are already under way, such as the displacement of the Clifford’s Tower car park to a new location in St George’s Fields.
We will hear from Andy Kerr, Project Manager, on the challenges facing the Master Plan and its implementation, and will then visit places of current interest in the area.
Meet at Friends’ Meeting House, Lower Friargate, York YO1 9RL at 10am, and be prepared for a walking tour lasting about an hour.
