In 1968 Viscount Esher delivered his report to the Government’s Preservation Policy Group and York Corporation. Set against growing recognition that historic fabric was a cultural and economic asset, the report made recommendations for the future development of the city.
This talk, by David Fraser, will describe the process of writing the report in its historical context, and examine the extent to which Esher’s aspirations have been achieved in the ensuing half century.
Venue: Friends’ Meeting House, Friargate, York, YO1 9RL
