Founded soon after the Norman Conquest, it was believed to be the largest medieval hospital in the north of England. The hospital also fed the poor and the condemned, providing meals for the prisoners in York Castle. Dr Peter Addyman – the well known York archaeologist – will lead a walking tour around the site of the hospital.
We will be encouraging people to stay for lunch afterwards in the Theatre Royal Café following the tour.
